According to <a href=\"https://www.earthday.org/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"earthday.org (opens in a new tab)\">earthday.org<\/a>, the first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learning about Earth Day with young children must be done in a meaningful way. Start by talking about how the Earth is their home and is also home to other people and animals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use every day examples to highlight ways kids can take good care of the Earth: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>What could they do in their kitchen?<\/li><li>What could they do at the grocery store?<\/li><li>Is there anything they could do in their bathroom?<\/li><li>What about at school or at the beach?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Kids are so smart and savvy if we let them be. (Bugs or flowers work great) *optional<\/li><li>Stapler or tape<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#c1fefd\" class=\"has-background has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Preparation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Cut out wide strips of green construction paper.<\/li><li>Draw lines on the paper (optional) so the kids know where to cut.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#c1fefd\" class=\"has-background has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Go Time:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Demonstrate how to cut little strips into the crown&#8230;emphasizing NOT to cut through to the edge. <\/li><li>Allow kids time to cut little slits in their crow to resemble grass.<\/li><li>Offer stickers to add to the base of the crown (bugs or flowers)<\/li><li>Tape or staple the crown closed to fit the size of each child&#8217;s head.<\/li><li>Take pictures!
