This day is also George Washington&#8217;s birthday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2>Presidents&#8217; Day: Circle Time<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Start a discussion about presidents with the kids using the following suggestions: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Does anyone know what the president does? <\/li><li>Show the kids a few photos of the presidents. Here is a <a href=\"https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwic-srAtLbnAhUfB50JHTnoBVkQjhx6BAgBEAI&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sporcle.com%2Fgames%2FJoeBeta%2Fu-s-presidents-younger&amp;psig=AOvVaw3Xiu9HptImL1iy4RsmUTDX&amp;ust=1580854580163041\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"fun poster (opens in a new tab)\">fun poster<\/a> that has some of the presidents along with photos of when they were kids!<\/li><li>What would you do if you were President for one day? <\/li><li>Compare &amp; Contrast Coins: Ask each child to bring a coin from home.  Talk about the differences they see in each coin and share the names of these coins (penny, nickle, dime, etc). Point out the different President images on each coin. It will take a little bit of work to prepare this homemade &#8220;toy&#8221;&#8230;but once it&#8217;s complete you can save it for years to come. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>COIN DROP<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#c1f3fd\" class=\"has-background\"><strong>ITEMS YOU WILL NEED:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Large Plastic Jar with Lid (cheese balls or animal cracker tubs work great!)<\/li><li>Small Plastic Cup<\/li><li>Bowl of Coins (dimes, nickles, pennies, quarters)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#c1fefd\" class=\"has-background\"><strong>PREPARATION:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Carefully cut a slit large enough for coins to fit through in the center of the lid.<\/li><li>Hot glue a plastic cup inside the base of the jar.<\/li><li>Fill the jar 3\/4 full with water. Kids will love hearing the &#8216;plunk&#8217; as the coins hit the water. Older kids will love the challenge of trying to get the coins to land in the inner cup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tip: <\/strong>The smaller you make the opening in the lid, the greater the challenge becomes for building fine motor skills!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2>PRESIDENTS&#8217; DAY ACTIVITIES: CREATIVE ART<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3>Coin Medallion Necklaces<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#c1fefd\" class=\"has-background\"><strong>ITEMS&nbsp;YOU&nbsp;WILL&nbsp;NEED: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Red, White &amp; Blue Construction Paper<\/li><li>Yarn (Red, White or Blue)<\/li><li><a href=\"https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0011N832C/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=theempoweredprovider.com-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B0011N832C&linkId=f4583a90bf0504ed7128121022c2f458\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Glue Dots (opens in a new tab)\">Glue Dots<\/a> (Liquid Glue will work too)<\/li><li>Coins (one for each child)<\/li><li>Hole punch<\/li><li>Scissors<\/li><li>Glue stick<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#c1fefd\" class=\"has-background\"><strong>PREPARATION: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Depending upon the ages of your kids, you may want to pre-cut colored circles in this order from biggest to smallest: Red, White, then Blue. <\/li><li>Let older kids cut their own. Use this coin as the featured coin on their medallion. The kids will love showing off their coin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pre-Math&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;Geometry&nbsp;Add-On:&nbsp;<\/strong>Use your pre-cut circles used in this activity to demonstrate the different sizes of circles and using terms such as &#8220;small, medium and large&#8221;. Compare the circles by asking which one is &#8220;bigger&#8221; or which one is &#8220;smaller&#8221;? You could also sort the circles to build on classification skills; sorting the circles by color or size. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2>Presidents&#8217; Day Activities: Keepsake<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Skip the cherry tree talk&#8230;young kids won&#8217;t understand it.
